Yin-Yang Fusion: Balanced Body & Peaceful Mind
Versed in multiple, varied styles of yoga, Pilates, and Qigong, I would self-describe my teaching as an eclectic fusion of healing modalities. My yogic journey began over a decade ago, when I was introduced to Ashtanga vinyasa— I was passionate about the “athletic” nature of this flowing movement practice. However, after studying at the Sivananda ashram in the Bahamas (in 2004), my personal practice and teaching became infused with meditation, pranayama (breathwork) and satsang (chanting), with the goal of affecting inner and outer peace. More recently, I have been inspired by the teachings of Anusara and Viniyoga, in addition to Pilates and Qigong… viewing such matwork as a therapeutic tool geared toward a balanced practice of Patanjali’s Eight Limbs. Such a practice taps the physical, psychological/neural, immunological, and general spiritual realms of our Oneness with each other and Divine nature.
On the mat, I like to guide students through an individualized flowing practice that integrates movement, breath, and mantra. After setting an intention, invoking the power of attitude, and emphasizing the power of the breath, each class unfolds uniquely based on my intuitive perception of the individual/ group and universal dynamic energetics. You can expect to be guided through a moving meditation that includes repetition and holding of postures sequenced to cultivate maximal vital life force. Group classes are taught with provided adaptation of positioning and muscular effort in a non-competitive approach that affords individual growth for the beginning, intermediate, or advanced student. Students are encouraged to work within their abilities and/ or challenge their personal edge while guided by their own personal intention! Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. Om Peace, Peace, Peace.
