Our Earth Day partnership with Sierra Club, + more
April 22, 2009
hi there FYF supporters! Happy Earth day!
It is with great honor on this day that I am able to announce to you our partnership with Sierra Club!
we feel that this partnership represents a union between environmental stewardship and yogic thought that has been long established in so many different ways. Indeed, for most yogis, environmental concerns and yoga amount to one and the same. We are striving to create a sustainable festival at FYF...our event, for example, will serve teas and warm beverages out of china instead of disposable fare, and will strive to be a zero-plastic-bottle event. We will have water coolers and drinking fountains on site for folks to fill up their water containers from also! Sierra Club will be exhibiting at our wellness marketplace, and we hope to bring you much more information about how our Yoga and wellness Community and Sierra Club are working in concert...stay tuned, for instance, for news on a nature-deficit disorder lecture that will be presented at the festival, and much more!
In other news at the festival, we are nearly at 70 workshops and classes for the three day weekend at this time! new classes and workshops offered include those by Tucson's teachers Tom Beall and Sally Weber (on pranayama, yin yoga, moon salutations, and partner yoga), and workshops on LifeForce Yoga by Rose Kress! In addition, we are happy to announce Steve Ilg will be at our festival! Steve self-healed a broken back without any drugs or surgeries..and has been teaching since 1982...he will be presenting a High Performance Yoga Master Class and an incredible-sounding evening program called The Energetics of Enlightenment! We are also finalizing arrangements with Jeff Martens of Inner Vision Yoga, who will be presenting 3 workshops for us, and with Marcia and Tom Galleher of Arizona Yoga Association, who will be presenting Dream Yoga and Beautiful Backbends for us!
Remember, if you do not already have your ticket reserved, the early bird deadline is May 15th. We expect the festival to fill!
Also in festival news this week: we are indeed developing the long-awaited children's festival track...there are only 18 slots available within this program at present, and details can be found on the new children's track info page of our website. Imagine your child happily engaged with friends while you are able to bliss-out in yoga, or perhaps an on-site bodywork session! aaah! I know that my husband and I will have our two kids in the children's program while we take Tom and Sally's partner yoga workshop on Saturday afternoon! the children's track will close as soon as it fills..remember, there are only 18 slots! make your reservations today!
And finally, we have another opportunity for you to win free festival passes...in addition to the raffle we are holding of members of this mailing list, we are issuing a member challenge on Facebook! if you become a member of our facebook page, and help us build our facebook presence to 1000 members by inviting your friends to join up, we will do a separate raffle for additional passes on facebook!
Thank you ALL for helping to grow our inaugural festival this year! I am so excited by the groundswell of enthusiasm that is evident in our new yoga community :)
In gratitude,
Laura Brown (festival director and host) www.flagstaffyogafestival.com
