What is Nia?
Nia is an exhilarating movement and lifestyle practice. As the first cardio workout to combine martial arts, dance
and healing arts, Nia has fundamentally changed lives with its evolutionary approach to fitness and self-healing in a body. Nia, an internationally acclaimed practice for over 25 years, is based on the science of the body, The Body’s Way. Nia offers a fun, creative pathway to health and well-being, regardless of age or physical condition.
Philosophy
Through Movement We Find Health
The body itself reveals the body’s way. We cultivate health, fitness, and well-being by choosing Pleasure over pain. We achieve mastery by listening to the Voice of the Body, Sensation, and by utilizing the gift of sensory intelligence as the way to live and be in the body.
About me . . .
I have a lifelong love of music and movement, and feel blessed to be able to do what I love as a professional musician, music educator and fitness instructor. I discovered Nia about ten years ago at an international fitness convention, and knew that it would change my life. At the time, I was a busy mom with three very young boys and training as a White Belt was not a possibility. Additionally, there were no Nia teachers in my area, so had to let my interest lie dormant for a while. In the fall of 2008, I attended a mind-body conference in Palm Springs and experienced Nia again as they celebrated their 25th birthday. I had an extraordinary experience there dancing with Debbie and Carlos Rosas. I set my goal of pursuing my White Belt, which I completed in July 2009. I had the privilege of studying in Portland at Studio Nia with Debbie Rosas, Helen Terry and Caroline Kohles. I completed my Green Belt certification in July of 2010, with Carlos Rosas. My Nia journey has been an amazing, transformational experience!

I love Nia for its unique blend of form and freedom, with ample opportunity for emotional release. I love the way that it allows for the individual to freely express their spirit while connecting to the energy of others. I love the blend of movement styles and the MUSIC!
I am thrilled to share the joy of movement with my friends in Flagstaff! I teach Nia at the Flagstaff Athletic Club, where I have been a fitness instructor since 1992. Please visit www.flagstaffathleticclub.com for more information and schedules.
